BowiElvis Fest IS officially 18 years old!

Houston has never needed much of an excuse to get weird, but BowiElvis Fest remains one of the finest. On Friday, January 8th, 2027, Splice Records returns to Dan Electro’s for another glorious collision of pompadours and lightning bolts, blue suede and glam, hip-shaking swagger and interstellar rock ’n’ roll. The reason for this beautiful nonsense is actually cosmic fact: Elvis Presley and David Bowie share a January 8th birthday, and BowiElvis Fest has spent nearly two decades treating that coincidence with exactly the amount of restraint it deserves—which is to say, absolutely none. This isn’t a solemn tribute show where everybody politely applauds the canon. BowiElvis is a full-contact birthday party. Over the years, Splice has built the festival around multiple stages of Houston and regional musicians twisting Bowie and Elvis classics into their own shapes, then mixing them with original music, DJs, costumes, food, drinks, face painting, contests and whatever other beautiful trouble can be squeezed into one building. Dan Electro’s proved to be an ideal new home for the madness: downstairs, upstairs, backyard, balcony—every corner capable of becoming part of the show. And that’s really the secret of BowiElvis Fest: underneath all the rhinestones, jumpsuits, eye shadow and absurdity is a genuine celebration of rock ’n’ roll as something you participate in, not something you preserve behind glass. Bowie gave us permission to reinvent ourselves. Elvis taught the planet what could happen when somebody moved their hips at precisely the wrong moment.
